Can I deduct moving expenses if I moved for a new job?
Not on a federal return, unless you are an active-duty member of the Armed Forces moving under military orders or, for moves in 2026 or later, an intelligence community employee relocated for a new assignment. The deduction has been unavailable to other workers since the 2018 tax year, though some states still allow one on the state return. Read the full guide.
Is it cheaper to move in winter?
Demand is lower in winter, so you usually have more choice of dates and start times. Whether the price is lower depends on the mover, the date, and the job, so request a quote for your specific move. Read the full guide.
Why are movers so busy at the end of the month?
Many leases end on the last day of the month and start on the first, and many home closings are scheduled for the same week. That concentrates a large share of moves into a few days. Read the full guide.
What is the best time of day to move in summer?
As early in the morning as possible. An early start puts the heaviest lifting in the coolest part of the day, before the afternoon heat peaks. Read the full guide.
